Message from Mr. Potter:
As most of the Jack London community is aware we lost one of our biggest supporters this month. Loretta Beach passed away unexpectedly on October 23. Loretta was a dedicated worker who was always ready to help our school.
It was an honor for our school that Loretta’s husband, Mike, requested that a celebration of Loretta’s life be held at the school this past Saturday. Loretta was a tireless supporter of the library, and it would have been nice to hold the celebration in the library, but we all knew there would not be enough room to accommodate everyone so we met in the gym.
It was nice to see the large turnout that filled the gym, and to realize that for every person there many, many more have had their lives touched by her.
Like many others I keep Loretta, her daughter, Jessica and her husband, Mike, in my thoughts and prayers. Loretta’s support will be missed and her many contributions will not be forgotten. We will miss her and always remember her, but most important of all we are all better for having had our lives touched by hers.

Loretta was the chairperson as well as heart and soul of our Book Fairs. This year we will still have her support in spirit, but not her expertise and hard work. Please see the information under Jack London Family News. Any extra support you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Did you know that three children have been hit by cars at this campus since it opened six years ago? Thankfully there were no serious injuries. In all cases students were in places where they should not have been. Please follow the traffic procedures at Jack London to help keep our students safe.
We ask that everyone use the traffic pick-up procedure outlined below unless you need to speak to your child’s teacher or go to the office. Please do not park and cross to get your child from the waiting area. Every time someone crosses the flow of traffic and then needs to back their car out of a parking space, it slows the whole process down. The few minutes you saved, causes a delay for many other people.
Use the first (east) entrance and follow the driveway all the way around to the drop-off/pick-up area on the west side of the school. Pull next to the curb in the drop-off/pickup area and pull as far forward as possible. Do not leave your car unattended along the curb.
If you need to park, please use a parking space and cross the driveway in the crosswalk with your student. If your student isn’t there when you arrive to pick him/her up and there are cars behind you, please continue to the exit and circle again. He/she will probably be waiting when you get there the next time. Please do not try to pick up your student anywhere else on campus. In the three cases mentioned above children were either being picked up or dropped off in undesignated areas.

A reminder to parents and other visitors: To help keep our campus safe and secure, please sign in at the office when you visit the campus. The office staff will give you a visitor’s badge to wear. Please return it when you sign out prior to leaving the campus. Thank you for helping make Jack London a safe and secure school.

JACK LONDON FAMILY NEWS
Jack London Families lost one of our members last week. Loretta Beach passed away unexpectedly after suffering a stroke. Loretta was a wonderful mom, a great friend and a very caring soul. Her tireless dedication to Jack London school was amazing. She was generous and always went above & beyond what was needed. Loretta was our biggest advocate for the Library. Not only did she personally cover hundreds of books to ready them for kids to check-out, she helped organize all of the Book Fairs for the last five years. She was always just as excited as the kids when those boxes of books came in. Loretta’s support and enthusiasm for our school will truly be missed.
Thank You to Lynn Cibrian, Calli McCannell, Christine Parker and Kelly Lawson Jones for organizing a great Monster Mash Bash! The kids always love this event and it seemed that everyone had fun with the party games, cake walk and the 6th grade Haunted House! Congratulations to our costume winners, too! Thank You also to Ken Lang, our DJ dad, for supplying the monster music again! You’re the best Uncle Kenny!
Thank you to Cathy Julien for setting up the Cal-Skate night fundraiser with Piner Elementary. This roller skating event was super fun and quite successful. We raised about $197.00 for our school!!
We have another Jack London Family event coming up on Friday, November 13th. It’s our first Movie Night of the year and we’ll be showing Disney’s “Up” (rated PG). Movie begins at 6:00pm. This is a FREE event and parents must attend with their children. The snack bar will be open for the purchase of goodies before the movie starts and during the intermission only. Feel free to wear your jammies & bring your pillows & sleeping bags.
Entertainment Books are now available for ordering! It’s a great way to save money on things you do everyday and help our school. Order forms are coming home soon, please look for the flyer. These annual coupon books are $30 each. All orders must be turned in by November 18th, so act fast! Please contact Shelly Wachter at or Joanna Kiesel at with any questions.
Save the Date! Reminder that our Winter Book Fair will be held December 7th-11th with a Family Event held the evening of Thursday December 10th. Volunteers needed and very much appreciated! If you’d like to help out, please contact, Amy McGee at 707-579-5911 or . More information to follow...
Our next Jack London Family meeting is scheduled for Tuesday November 10th. Note that this is a change in the original date (since the original date is a school holiday). It will be held at 6:30pm in the Jack London Library. Child care is available for children 5 years and older. Items on this month’s agenda may be: Movie Night, Book Fair, Crab Feed and Talent Show. Please come and give us your thoughts on other fun school events.
