Summary: Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Virginia Rickabaugh and I will have the pleasure of teaching your child this year. It is my belief that a child's success is based on a cooperative parent/teacher relationship. I look forward to working with you throughout the year.
I hope you and your child enjoyed the summer and are ready to embark on an important milestone in your child's life. Kindergarten is a time for children to socialize with classmates, learn the abc's and numbers and many other essential skills they will need to succeed in later years. Additionally, California has adopted standards for kindergarten students and we strive to reach these important goals by the year's end.
During the first couple of weeks of school, we are learning many new and exciting things. A few of the themes and concepts are: friendship and sharing, name and shape recognition, classroom rules and simply adjusting to an extended school day. Following this, we will be working on the theme "Look At Us!" We will cover a different theme every three weeks. You will receive a newsletter before the start of each theme, as well as our usual Friday newsletter. The newsletter will inform you of activities you can do at home to reinforce skills and strategies taught in the theme.
